Introduced in Ruby and Sapphire is the ability move. Each Pokemon has an ability, and this ability does a variety of effects from changing the weather to preventing some moves from working. This carries over to Diamond and Pearl as well.

Below is all the abilities introduced in Diamond and Pearl and their effects.

Adaptibility: If this Pokémon uses an attack that has the same type as it, then the move's power is increased

Aftermath: If this Pokémon was fainted by a physical attack, the opponent receives damage

Anger Point: This Pokémon's attack rises when hit with a critical hit

Anger Point: Predicts super effective attacks from the foe

Anger Point: The foe loses health each turn it is asleep

Download: The Pokemon raises a stat based on the foe's highest stat.

Dry Skin: The Pokemon loses HP if Sunny Day is in effect. If it is raining, this Pokemon gains HP.

Frisk: Allows you to see items held by the foe.

Filter: If attacked with a super effective move, that move will do half the normal damage.

Flower Gift: Changes form when Sunny Day is in effect

Forewarn: Allows you to view all of the foe's attacks

Gluttony: Held items are used quicker

Heat Proof: Fire damage is reduced by half

Honey Gather: Might collect Hony after battle

Hydration: All status effects are cured when Rain Dance is in effect

Ice Body: Recovers HP during a Hailstorm

Iron Fist: Punching moves have attack power increased

Klutz: Unable to use hold items

Leaf Guard: All status effects are cured when Sunny Day is in effect

Magic Guard: Only attacks that do damage may be used on this Pokemon

Mold Breaker: Nulls and voids opponet's ability

Motordrive: Speed increases when hit with Electrical attacks

Multitype: Type and form changes with each item held

No Guard: When this Pokemon is in battle, all attacks have perfect accuracy

Normalize: All attacks this Pokemon knows are of the normal-type

Poison Heal: HP is restores when effected with a status condition

Quick Feet: Speed increases when affected by a status condition

Reckless: All recoil damage is doubled

Rivalry: Attack increases when opponent is of the game gender

Scrappy: Normal and Fighting moves will hit Ghost-types

Simple: Effects of held items are doubled

Skill Link: Moves that do damage multiple times will hit more

Slow Start: Speed and Attack are lowered for the first few turns

Sniper: Attack increases during a critical hit move

Snow Cloak: Evasion raises in a hailstorm

Snow warning: When the Pokemon enters battle, it'll brew and a hailstorm

Solar Power: HP decreases and Special Attack rises when Sunny Day is in effect

Solid Rock: Super-effective attacks do less damage

Stall: The Pokemon always move slower than the foe

Steadfast: Speed increases when flinched

Storm Drain: This Pokemon is hit by all water-type moves moves

Tangled Feet: Evasion increases when confused

Technician: Weaker moves' power is increased

Tented Lens: Ineffective attack's have power increased

Unaware: Foe's stat changes are nulled and voided

Unburden: Speed increases if no item is held
