A new concept in Gold and Silver is breeding. Any Pokemon that does not have legendary status can be bred. When you place two Pokemon in the day-care, there is a chance they will produce an egg. This egg will contain the lowest evolution stage for the female Pokemon and it will be at level 5.

Sometimes, this will yield new Pokemon to your Pokedex. Other times, you will receive a Pokemon you once had (say Totodile) that can be traded off for others you don't have. If you're lucky, it might just know moves the father Pokemon knows.

One of the most important Pokemon to have is Ditto. Ditto will act as the other Pokemon needed to breed and makes breeding of certain Pokemon possible (Magneton, Chansey). Below is a list of Pokemon whos lowest stage is considered the "baby stage", and breeding is the only way to obtain "baby" Pokemon. These breeding methods for these Pokemon remain the same in all games.

Before attempting to breed, make sure you have a Ditto and have placed it in the day-care. Now, go out and find any Pokemon on the left column and place it in with Ditto. The egg will produce the Pokemon on the left column.
