Ho-oh is the mascot for Gold version, and throughout the second generation it is located at the top of Tin Tower. Before running after Ho-oh, you should get the following things:

- 60 Ultra Balls
- 30 Full Restore
- A Pokemon that knows Fly
- 10 Max Repels
- Rainbow Wing

To get the Rainbow Wing in Gold Version, you must clear the Radio Tower in Goldenrod City of Team Rocket. The director will give it to you as thanks. In Silver Version, an old man in Pewter City will give it to you. Once you have the items (the numbers are not necessary, just averages) head to Ecruteak City.

Head north, and find the big building near a pond. Enter, and head to the back and go down the stairs. Follow the path and you'll find yourself outside. Follow this tree lined path and you'll come to the Tin Tower.

Enter the tower and head to the back of the room. The man who used to block the stairs has moved. Go up the stairs to the next room, and go to the back of the next room to the stairs leading up.

You'll now find yourself in the puzzle part of the tower. This part can be a bit tricky. Be sure to grab any items you see.

On the first floor, you'll see what look like "ramps". You can hop over these much like you can with ledges on routes. Head across the ramps on the top right, then up, then left on the these ramps and pass the moving pillar. More ramps. Head up, then right across more ramps. head up the stairs to the next level.

On the next floor, go down the ramps to the end where an item and stairs are. Go left across the next set of ramps and you'll see a set of stairs and another item. Grab the item and head up, going right, then up along the left side of the moving pillar. Go left across the ramps, then head up the stairs.

Head to the upper most part of the room and head right across the ramps. Hop over twice, and you'll see a ramp to hop down. Do so, then hop over the left. Hop down when you can, and continue hoping down then you'll ahve to hop right, then down again. You'll land at some stairs.

On the next floor, follow the path and you'll cross a bridge. You'll come to more ramps at the end of the bridge. Head p the stairs.

Head up, and you'll see a red tile. This is a teleporter. Skip this one, and go across the bottom most ramps. Grab the item and head down. Go left and take the first red teleporter. Head down, and take the other teleporter. Follow the path and you'll come to another teleporter, and eventually some stairs that lead to the rooftop where Ho-oh awaits. Save, and challenge Ho-oh.

When the battle begins, it is best to put Ho-oh to sleep and attack it with Water moves. Putting it to sleep prevents it from recovering HP and using Safeguard. If you don't have a sleep inducing move, paralyzing it works fine. Reduce its HP to little as possible. If it recovers, attack it until its HP is nearly gone.

If you have access to a sleep-inducing move, use it now and then hurl Ultra Balls. Put it to sleep again if it wakes up, and attack when it uses Recover.

In Silver version, Ho-oh is at level 70. In Gold Version, Ho-oh is at level 40.
