Pokemon: Paras, Oddish, Weedle, kakuna, Caterpie, Metapod, Zubat
The path in this forest is pretty much straight forward. You'll come to
a bush blocking your path with a guy in green next to it. Keep going
and you'll see a Pokemon, which is Farfetch'd. It will run from you. If
you chase it, you'll come to a fork. One goes north, the other goes to
the right. Far' will block the northern path. Take the right path and
circle around the trees (not the trees located near the Revive) and
you'll soon be in front of Far'. Now the time it takes to catch him is
reduced. He'll run back to the entrance now. Follow him and speak with
the person on the left of the bird. You now have HM01! Teach it to a
Pokemon that you plan on not keeping in your party.
Now cut down the bush to continue. The rest of the forest is straight
forward. Most paths that fork from the main one contain hidden items so
be sure to press A to find them. When you come to ledge with a path
running down the middle, you'll see another path continuing to the
right. Follow that path and you'll come to a man who will give you TM02. Backtrack to that ledge and follow the rest of the path.
Pokemon: Ditto, Drowzee, Rattata, Abra
The only thing good on this route is the Day Care center, Drowzee, and
Ditto. Catch Ditto and enter the daycare center and speak with the man.
He and his wife will offer to raise Pokemon for you. If you place two
Pokemon in the daycare and they show interest in each other, then
you'll get a Poke-Egg sooner or later with a level 5 of the lowest stage
for the female. You can obtain new Pokemon this way and this is why you
need Ditto. Check out the Breeding Page for more info.
Before you leave, catch two Drowzee's. One will be for yourself, the other you can trade in the next city for a Machop.
The Goldenroad Mart is like the Celadon Mart: huge. Take one of your
Drowzee's with you if you caught one. Find for the fifth floor and talk to the man next
to the counter. He'll offer his Machop for your Drowzee. Say yes and
you now have a new Pokemon. There are three TMs of this floor you can
buy that amy be helpful later on. More will be available later in the game
Leave the Mart after your done shopping, head north until you come to
an intersection that splits into 3 ways (its near a man in red). Take
the right one and head down and you'll come to the bike shop. The guy
inside will give you a bike for free. Now, return to the intersection
but this time take the left. Enter the tall black building and talk to
the green lady all the way at the other end of the counter. Answer 5
questions correctly and you get a free radio card. The answers are:
Yes, yes, no, yes, no. Leave the tower and now it is time to find the
gym. The Goldenrod Gym specializes in Normal type Pokemon and they're weakness is fighting. Whitney Pokemon: Clefairy L. 18, Miltank L. 20 Prize: TM45, Plainbadge Clefairy is really nothing if you're using Machop. Miltank is the problem because it uses Rollout often and Milk Drink which will each itself. Not only that, it has impressive defense and despite being a huge cow, it is fast. This is probably where all of your healing and switiching will take place.
Leave the gym and go to the house next door and speak with the lady in
red. She'll give you a squirt bottle now that you have 3 badges. Now
its time to head north.
