Pokemon is based around defeating the 8 Gym Leaders for the region to gain entry into the Pokemon League. These leaders are trainers who specialize in a type of Pokemon or stat. On this page, Gym Leaders, their Pokemon, and methods for defeating them are listed.

:: Pewter Gym Leader Brock ::

Brock uses Rock type Pokemon. They will go down with a couple of Water/Leaf type moves. If you don't have these, be sure to have a Butterfree that knows Confusion. Otherwise, attack like hell.

:: Cerulean Gym Leader Misty ::

Leaf and Electric type Pokemon will do very well on Misty's Pokemon given that you can attack first. Staryu gives up no fight but Starmie will give the most trouble due to its Bubblebeam attack.

:: Vermillion Gym Leader Lt. Surge ::

Pikachu and Voltorb are really no threats, and simple moves can take them both out. However, Raichu will show no mercy to any non-Ground type, so be sure to have one if you can. Ground/Fighting type moves are key here with a strong Pokemon.

:: Celadon Gym Leader Erika ::

Erika uses Grass/Poison type Pokemon. Flying, Bug, Ice, and Fire will do the most damage if you have those types of moves. Be careful of Vileplume and Victreebel since they can use stat changing moves.

:: Fuchsia Gym Leader Koga ::

If you have a good attack Pokemon, you shouldn't really need to rely on Psychic type moves. All of them have moderate to low defense, so moves like Mega Punch will do fine. However, the Koffing family Pokemon might Self-Destruct at any given moment.

:: Saffron Gym Leader Sabrina ::

Venomoth is weak to Fire and Ice. If the Pokemon using them has a good Special, use Fire and Ice (Flamethrower/Ice Beam) on her others until they go down. They generally have Low defense, so physical moves will do good too. Just watch out for Recover.

:: Cinnabar Gym Leader Blaine ::

If you have some powerful Ground or Water type moves, do not stop using them. His Arcanine is 5 levels higher than his other Pokemon and dangerously fast. Surf and Bubblebeam is recommended.

:: Viridian Gym Leader Giovanni ::

Dugtrio, Rhyhorn and its family are all weak to Leaf type moves, so Solar Beam is a must. Nidoking and Nidoqueen are Poison/Ground types, so Poison nulls Leaf's effectiveness. So, Water moves instead or Fighting type moves if you have them. Really easy if your Pokemon are fast.
