TM stands for Technique Machine and HM stands for Hidden Machine. HMs, unlike TMs, can be used multiple times but they cannot be deleted from your Pokemon's movepool. TMs can only be used once but can be deleted from your Pokemon's movepool. Neat trade off, huh?
