The Normal-type is seen by many to be the default type. Normal Pokemon and Normal moves are abundant in Pokemon.

Normal Pokemon generally have great attacking power and awesome defensive capabilities. They aren't typically fast, but can take a few hits while wiping the floor with your opponent. Health points are usually moderate if the Pokemon excels in the attack area; if it excels in the defense area then it usually suffers in speed but has large amounts of HP. They have one weakness and an immunity to Ghost-type moves.

Normal moves are just plain awesome. They are only resisted by Rock and Steel Pokemon and do not effect Ghost Pokemon at all, but can if Foresight is used. They have a variety of effects and are generally powerful moves.
