Pokemon: Rattata, Spearow, Sandshrew, Jigglypuff, Magikarp There are a lot of trainers in this route, so this would be a good time to train some lower level Pokemon, or to train the ones you plan on keeping. Keep on going and you'll reach a Pokemon center and the entrance to Mount Moon. Heal your Pokemon, then speak with the man in the lower corner. For $500, he will sell you a pathetic Magikarp.Magikarp has unbelievably low attack, learns it only attacking move at level 15, and can't learn any TMs. If you have patience, buy it; when it reaches level 20 it will evolve into a powerful Gyarados. Now head into Mount Moon.
Pokemon: Clefairy, Zubat, Paras, Geodude If you head to the left, you can fnd a potion item, a trainer, and the TM12 item. Go to the right, then up, then down again (past the ladder) you can find more trainers and a Rare Candy item, along with another potion and an escape rope. If you follow the ladders, you'll find Rockets, TM01, and an ether. If you don't, you'll come to a large room with a man standing before the ladder, behind him will be a Moon Stone. Follow the ladder, and you'll come to a straight forward path. At the end are two fossils and a supernerd. Defeat him, and he will let you take one of the fossils. The Dome Fossil will become Kabuto, and the Helix fossil will be Omanyte. Contine on, and you'll be challenged by Team Rocket.
Team Rocket Pokemon: Lv. 14 Koffing, Lv. 14 Ekans, Lv. 14 Meowth Prize: $450 If you have Butterfree and it still knows Confusion, it will make quick work of Ekans and Koffing. If not, use Pikachu or Geodude will work fine. If your Nidoran's have evolved, or your using Mankey, they'll good against Meowth. Continue on and you'll land in Route 4.
Pokemon: Sandshrew, Rattata, Mankey, Spearow Not much here, be sure to nab the TM04 item. Once you go into Cerulean City, there is no turning back, so make sure you've done everything you wanted.
A few things to do here. The first being to heal your Pokemon, the second to buy a few potions because of the upcoming battles. Next door to the Pokemon center is a house. The lady inside will give you Bulbasaur if Pikachu is happy enough. You can go to the other next door of the center and challenge the gym, but wait until later There is a hidden Rare Candy behind the two houses just before Route 24. End north into Route 24.
Pokemon: Pidgey, Rattata, Oddish, Abra, Bellsprout Guess who shows up before you can really do anything in this route?
Rival Pokemon: Lv. 16 Spearow, Lv. 15 Rattata, Lv. 15 Sandshrew, lv. 17 Eevee Prize: $500 This is a rather easy fight if you're at a decent level. Pikachu will make quick work of Spearow with its Thundershock move. Mankey, or the Nidos, will make quick work of the normal-type Pokemon he has; given they know Lowkick/Double Kick. Once he shuts up and leaves, head on north. You'll come across the Nugget Bridge and will have to fight five trainers to get a Nugget item, which can be sold for $5,000. The man who gives it to you tries to get you to join Team Rocket, but you end up battling him anyways. If you head right, you'll find more trainers and eventually you'll find Bill's house. To the left is some grass where Pokemon can be caught. If you go up, a man will give you a free Charmander. Head right, battling trainers, and you'll come across a house. Go inside, and Pikachu will freak in the next moments. Talk to the Pokemon, which turns out to be Bill, and say you'll help him. Go to the PC and activate it. Bill will come out of the machine, and this is where Pikachu freaks (which was hilarious when I was 10). Talk to Bill and he gives you a SS Ticket. Return to Cerulean City, heal at the center, then go to the gym.
Trainers here use Water-type Pokemon. So if you're packing Oddish, Bellsprout, or Bulbasaur along with Pikachu, you should do fine given that they're at good levels. In the back is Misty.
Misty Pokemon: Lv. 18 Staryu, Lv. 21 Starmie Prize: TM11, Cascade badge, $2000 Both Pokemon are weak to Electric and Grass-type attacks. Staryu won't be much trouble, and will quickly fall. Starmie, however, is bloody fast and a heavy hitter. Paralyze it to give you an edge, then hammer away at it with Thundershock (Thunderbolt if you have it), Vine Whip, or Absorb. Zeph's Pokemon at this point: Lv. 21 Gyarados, Lv. 23 Pikachu, Lv. 19 Mankey Once you beat Misty, return to the Pokemon Center and heal. Word of advice. If Pikachu is at, or past level 26 (the level it learns Thunderbolt), I suggest you trade it to Red/Blue and evolve it into Raichu. Pikachu becomes pretty useless after this part of the game. If you like Pikachu, don't evolve it, but expect to be healing often.
